THE ACCRINGTON OBSERVER AND TIMES

RESEARCH SITE

This Site Is Not Associated With The Accrington Observer and Times

If you visit this site again you may find little change. This is because it takes time to transcribe the details.

We are now working on April to June 1916

This site is dedicated to those people, who lost thier lives, friend or foe, during the first world war.

This site was released on 8th November 2009

The choice of Accrington as a second newspaper was rather by accident than choice. I am not a follower of football, and when asked I always say I support Accrington Stanley, you can guess the response. Owing to the cost of original microfilm, I have a search set up for Ebay. One day I had an email telling me there were five reels of film for The Accrington Observer. This was one I had to go for. A bid was placed, but owing to a reserve my bid was not high enough. Three months later they came up again, this time with no reserve. I waited and put a sniper bid on at the last minute, I was the only bidder, and purchased the reels, this time at half the price offered in the original bid. It does not always pay to put a reserve on. The rest is history, on inspection it was clear the reels had some excellent material. I have recently inspected film for the Surrey Advertiser, 1916, it is by no means as interesting, or as well published. I now look forward to transcribing further issues.

Found someone then let us know, we are always interested to hear how you get on.
